It's an interesting and rather lovely phenomenon that so many of my friends have written books. Here are my favourite ones they've written - be sure to rush off to Amazon to buy them! And if you're one of my pals who hasn't yet put paw to keyboard, don't wait for some dreary publisher or agent. Self-publish! It's this century's way of doing things. You can get just one copy of your book published via lulu.com for a mere tenner and that includes a colour cover! But, ahem, this fancy lot have all of course got super-kosher, posh publishers.

Sandy Balfour - Pretty Girl in Crimson Rose

Maurice Collins - Eccentric Contraptions

Phil Dourado - The 7 Secrets of Inspired Leaders

Ruth Evans - Maternity Rights at Work

Sandra Evans - Talking over the Years

Nicola Grove - Literature for All

Daniel Janner - Criminal Appeal Reports. (It would be wrong to describe as a crime a book that sells for £205!! On the contrary, it is wonderful as it justifies buying every other book on this list for the same cost as just this one volume. And actually, it comes in several, equally astronomically priced volumes.)

Una Padel - Insiders - Women's Experience of Prison

Nick Page - literally dozens, including The Tabloid Shakespeare and my very favourite (sadly out pf print) In Search of The World's Worst Writers

Ann Robinson -- The Which Guide to Women's Health

Martin Rosenbaum - From Soapbox to Soundbite

Sandi Toksvig - another multiple author, including of the fabulous The Travels of Lady Bulldog Burton

Claire Tomalin (in a rather different league, as a Whitbread prize winner) - lots, including Samuel Pepys: The Unequalled Self

And I'm sure Marion would feel no list was complete without at least a mention of her psychiatrist's books. Her favourite is apparrently the somewhat niche Psychotherapy for Borderline Personality Disorder by Prof Anthony Bateman
